Telangana: Rs 18,000 crore allocated to build 2.91 lakh houses under 2BHK scheme

According to the latest reports, the Telangana government has allocated Rs 18,000 crore to build 2.91 lakh houses in the state. Instructions have been issued to all District Collectors in Telangana to expedite the implementation of the scheme for providing double-bedroom houses to the poor.

As per a detailed note issued by the housing department on the double-bedroom housing scheme, no state in the country has seen an example of the construction of double-bedroom housing for the poor like Telangana.

Aside from basic amenities, emphasis is being placed on the provision of roads, electricity, sewage, and other facilities in the area.

It was reported that the government should finish building the houses and hand them over to the beneficiaries by January 15, 2023.

The government is planning a large-scale house distribution program. Beneficiaries will be chosen in a transparent manner. Gram Sabha and Ward Sabha will be held to receive requests.

Applications should be processed by the relevant Tehsildar. The list of beneficiaries should be sent to the District Collectors, who will then finalize the list and begin the process of house allotment. If there are more applicants than available houses, the beneficiaries will be chosen through a random drawing.

Collectors have been tasked to complete the tender process for house construction as soon as possible, and they have been asked to inspect house construction every week. Middlemen’s activities in house allotment should be monitored so that applicants can avoid fraud.

Housing Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said the 2BHK scheme, a brainchild of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was a one-of-a-kind scheme in the country, being implemented only in Telangana. This was one of the flagship schemes of the TRS Government, with the goal of providing 100% subsidy to eligible beneficiaries.
