Telangana: Sufficient water supply to be ensured by ULBs and electricity dept during summer

Given the state’s rising temperatures, the Public Health and Municipal Engineering department has issued instructions to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to ensure safe and sufficient water supply within their limits during the summer.

ULBs have been directed to coordinate with the electricity department to ensure continuous water supply, while municipal commissioners and engineers have been directed to coordinate with the irrigation department to ensure timely release of water into canals.

“Owing to increased demand for fresh water in the summer season, the ULBs have been asked to follow a few guidelines on specific issues,” an official from the department said.

Municipal commissioners have been directed to install required capacity generators at all pumping stations if required to ensure uninterrupted pumping.

In addition to this, all water sources will be outfitted with safeguards to prevent contamination of drinking water and sewage water from entering freshwater pipelines.

Telangana to have no power cuts during summer

Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy assured on Friday that the government would take steps to ensure a continuous supply of quality power 24×7 to all consumers, including domestic, industrial, and commercial users, throughout the summer.

The Minister told the media after inducting several Congress leaders and workers from Suryapet into the BRS at his residence here that the government was taking every measure to supply uninterrupted power to consumers during summer.

“We were expecting the power demand to cross 15,000 MW during summer, but it has already crossed the mark. We are now expecting the power demand to cross 17,000 MW in the summer. We are prepared to supply any amount of power to our consumers uninterruptedly,” he said.

According to Jagadish Reddy, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed power utilities to purchase power from alternative sources if necessary to meet demand.
