Telangana Transport Department Earns Rs 52.52 Lakh from Fancy Number Plate Auction

In a remarkable feat, the Telangana Transport Department earned a staggering Rs 52.52 lakh through an online auction of fancy TG number plates . The auction, which featured nine coveted TG number plates, attracted significant attention from bidders, resulting in a lucrative outcome for the state’s transport department.

According to Joint Transport Commissioner Ramesh, the auction was a major success, with bidders competing fiercely for the exclusive number plates. The highest bidder was for the number plate TG 09 D 0001, which was sold for a remarkable Rs 11,11,111. Other notable sales included TG 09 D 0009, which fetched Rs 10,40,000, and TG 09 C 9999, which went for Rs 7,19,999. Other plates like TG 09 D 0006 and TG 09 D 0005 sold for Rs 3,65,000 and Rs 3,45,000, respectively.

The full list of number plates sold in the auction included:

  • TG 09 D 0001 – Rs 11,11,111
  • TG 09 D 0009 – Rs 10,40,000
  • TG 09 C 9999 – Rs 7,19,999
  • TG 09 D 0006 – Rs 3,65,000

This auction follows a similar successful event held earlier in July when the Secunderabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) earned Rs 18.28 lakh by auctioning off several fancy number plates. Among the standout items in the July auction was the TG 10 9999 plate, which was sold for Rs 6,00,999 after a competitive bidding war with five contenders.

Other popular plates in the July auction included TG 10A 0001, which went for Rs 3.60 lakh, and TG 10A 0009, which sold for Rs 2.61 lakh. However, the least expensive plate of the auction, TG 10A 0005, was sold for a modest Rs 51,500.

This auction is part of a broader trend of increasing interest in fancy number plates in Telangana. Earlier this year, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) raised Rs 30 lakh through a similar auction event. The move to auction off fancy number plates has garnered significant attention, particularly since the Telangana government, under the Congress-led administration, officially changed the state’s vehicle series abbreviation from ‘TS’ to ‘TG’ earlier this year.

The success of these auctions highlights the growing demand for exclusive and memorable vehicle registration numbers, with bidders willing to pay hefty sums to own a unique identifier for their vehicles. The funds generated from these auctions contribute significantly to the state’s transport revenue, further bolstering the state’s finances.

As the trend continues, the Telangana Transport Department is expected to hold more such auctions in the future, allowing vehicle owners and collectors the opportunity to acquire some of the most sought-after number plates in the region.
