Tension continues in Hyderabad as Raja Singh released on bail

As a result of T Raja Singh’s derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammed and his subsequent release on bail, tensions in the city remain high.

There was a continuation of the protest in the city by groups of youngsters. Several protests were reported from Amberpet, Tallabkatta, Charminar, Moghalpura, Khilwat, Bahadurpura, and Chanchalguda.

During the late night hours, the protests around Charminar were the most intense. Additional policemen were deployed at the monument to beef up the police presence.

As a precaution, the Puranapul Bridge and Moosarambagh Bridge were closed by the police. All areas of the city were patrolled more closely by the police.

During protests in Moghalpura, a police vehicle was damaged.

Despite being accused of violating sections 295(a), 153(a), 505(1)(b), and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code, the Nampally criminal court granted the MLA bail. According to the court, proper procedures had not been followed before the arrest.

The police have denied reports of protesters pelting stones and torching a few areas.

However, Hyderabad police said they are on high alert to prevent any clashes between the two communities in the city’s densely populated areas.

Prior to this, the controversial statement of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about Prophet Muhammad caused communal strife in the country, prompting her suspension from the party, and now MLA T Raja of the same party has made similar remarks.

Singh was also recently suspended by the BJP for violating the constitution of the party.  The BJP issued a show cause notice to Singh, who is known for his hardline religious rhetoric, and asked him to explain why he should not be expelled from the party within 10 days.

The BJP’s central disciplinary committee secretary Om Pathak wrote to Singh, saying: You have expressed views contrary to the Party’s position on various matters, which is in clear violation of the

constitution of the BJP. I have been directed to convey to you that pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities/assignments if any, with immediate effect.
