TS government approves Rs 57.09 Cr for construction of 7 check dams

On Monday, the State government sanctioned a total of Rs 57.09 crore for the construction of seven new check dams in the Balkonda constituency of Nizamabad district. Rajat Kumar, the special chief secretary for irrigation, issued orders in this regard.

Based on these orders, four check dams will be constructed near Shetpally, Palem-Donkal, Ramannapet and Velpur-Janakampet villages of Morthad Mandal and Velpur-Janakampet villages of Velpur Mandal. There will also be three check dams across Kappalavagu at the villages of Bejjor-Bheemgal, Salampur-Secunderapur, near Velgatur in Mendora, and near Bejjor-Bheemgal.

Therefore, the Chief Engineer (I) of the Nizamabad district has been instructed to obtain the approved designs and drawings from the Competent Authority, to ensure that the check dam spread area does not overlap the adjacent spread area, to ensure the provision in the estimate and the correctness of quantities, and to obtain the clearance of the groundwater department. In addition to the length of the check dam and the banks on either side, the Chief Engineer was also responsible for determining the need for the dam and its location.

Telangana reservoir protestor’s protest for compensation

The village of Gudatipally in Telangana’s Siddipet district was tense as villagers displaced by Gauravelli Reservoir came out on the streets to demand compensation for their lands. Police detained protestors as they attempted to prevent officials from conducting a survey before the dry run of the machines to pump water into the reservoir.

A minor scuffle took place between protestors, including women, and police. Sweta Reddy, district superintendent of police, denies that a baton charge was made. Several people were placed in preventive custody as the police had been approached by officials complaining they were being prevented from fulfilling their duties. According to her, a case has been filed against those who obstructed the work.
