Water Leakage in Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Express; Congress Criticizes Government

A video showing water leaking from the roof of a coach in the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Express (22181) has sparked controversy, with the opposition Congress using the incident to sharply criticize the government’s handling of railway services. The clip, which went viral on social media, shows water dripping from a vent in the train’s roof, leading the Congress to sarcastically claim that the Railways has now introduced a “waterfall facility” for passengers.

The incident occurred when passengers noticed water leaking from the roof of one of the train’s coaches. The Congress quickly shared the video on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, taking aim at the government’s management of the railways. “The Railways has given passengers the facility of a waterfall inside the train,” the Congress tweeted, mocking the authorities.

In response to the viral video, West Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Harshit Shrivastava confirmed that immediate action was taken to address the issue. He explained that railway staff attended to the complaint at multiple stations, including Damoh and Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, as well as Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

“After the train reached Hazrat Nizamuddin station in New Delhi, repairs were initiated. The coach will not be used again until the repair work is fully completed,” Shrivastava stated. He also confirmed that disciplinary action was being taken against the staff responsible for the issue, citing slack supervision.

Despite the Railways’ efforts to resolve the problem, the Congress continued to criticize the government. The opposition party questioned the quality of railway services, calling the incident an example of poor maintenance and mismanagement. Congress leaders accused the ruling party of failing to ensure basic comfort and safety for passengers, despite grand claims about modernizing the railway system.

In response to the Congress’ criticisms, the Jabalpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) issued a statement, assuring the public that the issue had been handled as a priority. “The complaint was dealt with immediately at the Damoh and Sagar stations. The staff responsible for the oversight will face disciplinary action under the DAR (Disciplinary Action Rules). Complete repair and maintenance will be conducted before the coach is put back in service,” the DRM stated.

While railway authorities moved swiftly to address the situation, the incident has fueled political debate, with the Congress using it as an opportunity to target the government over infrastructure management and passenger safety.
