Woman commits suicide due to harassment from husband and in-laws

In another shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman had killed her two children by throwing them in a lake before committing suicide at Kothapally village in Gambhiraopeta mandal after being unable to bear alleged persistent harassment by her husband and in-laws for additional dowry.

The incident generated tension in the village, as relatives of the deceased from a neighbouring village went to Kothapally, vociferously demanding strict punishment against those guilty for the woman’s and her two children’s unfortunate deaths. Rekha, 24, and her two daughters, three-year-old Abhigna and six-month-old Hansika, were among those dead.

Rekha allegedly threw her two daughters into Ura Cheruvu before leaping into the lake herself.

Villagers spotted the bodies of the two girls floating in the lake. They reported the event to local police, who arrived on the scene and recovered the bodies of the trio later that day.

Earlier, during the search operation at the lake, outraged relatives of the deceased from Lingannapeta demanded the immediate arrest of Rekha’s husband Raju, a worker, and her in-laws for reportedly torturing the woman for further dowry and being the cause for her suicide with her two daughters.
