580 adverse reaction cases, 2 deaths unrelated to vaccine- Government

The tally of people hit with adverse reactions to the new covid-19 vaccine turned 580 in the country while 2 others have died, allegedly not due to reasons pertaining to the vaccine, the government said.

These 587 people were part of the mass vaccination drive that started 3 days ago and administered doses to over 3.8 lakh Indians.

Yesterday evening, a Moradabad resident was reported to have died 24 hours following his vaccination. The 46-year-old ward boy, Mahipal Singh, worked at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh. However, the Chief Medical Officer of the district said that the death was unrelated to the shot administration.

Singh autopsy reports state “cardiogenic shock/septicemic shock” because of “cardio-pulmonary disease” as the immediate cause of death, according to the UP government. His family’s statement was synchronous as they said that Singh was sick prior to the vaccine.

The second death was reported from Bellary in Karnataka where a 43-year-old man died, again, allegedly due to cardio-pulmonary failure, as told by the government. It added that the post mortem hasn’t been done yet.

Karnataka health minister K Sudhakar later said that the health worker’s death wasn’t due to the jab. He said in the evening, “The man had a massive heart attack. He had a history of diabetes and comorbidity.” The minister further said that even after Saturday’s administration, the man did not show any symptoms till much later.

“He came to the office in the morning and complained of chest pain,” he said.

Amongst the 7 people who are hospitalized, 3 hail from Delhi where 2 are already discharged and one is kept under observation in Max Hospital. Karnataka reports 2 cases where one of them is under observation.

Another is in Uttarakhand and is under observation in AIIMS, Rishikesh. The last patient is in Rajanandgoan’s hospital in Chhattisgarh.

25 states vaccinated their 1,48,266, healthcare workers, today taking the total number of people vaccinated to 3,81,305. Compared to today’s 25, yesterday 5 states had vaccinated their workers.

Every state has set its own timeline of the drive and targets for each vaccination camp. The majority of the states have targeted 100 as the number of people to be vaccinated per day in every such site. However, Telangana has this number as 30.

Close to 1 crore healthcare workers and 2 crore frontline workers will be getting the vaccine administered. Those who either suffer from comorbidities like hypertension and diabetes or are aged above 50 years are next in line to receive the vaccine. This group includes 27 crores, such people. Followed by this would the regular public.
