As TRS and Congress withdraw the contest, AIMIM declared unanimously elected from Jalpally

With all the two main opposition contestants TRS and Congress withdrew from contesting the by-poll from Ward No.28, under Jalpally Municipality, the deck has been finally cleared for the MIM party whose candidate can now be declared as unanimously elected.

As the 22nd April was the last day of withdrawal of nominations, the Congress Candidate represented by her husband Samad Bin Siddique rescinded from her candidature in favour of MIM party candidate Tahseen Begum, a 25 year old daughter-in-law of former councilor Nazia Begum.

Only a few meters of walk from Barkas crossroad there exists the Sadat Nagar area which together with few surrounding neighborhoods and part of Shaheen Nagar forms a complete circle of Ward No.28 with just 2578 electors currently enrolled under the electoral roll of the ward.

Out of total 13 Municipal wards in the entire Rangareddy district – where the municipal elections are going to be held soon, Ward No.28 under Jalpally Municipality is the only one on the city outskirts which gone to poll while the remaining 12 wards are from newly constituted Corporation of Kothur almost 10 kilometers away from the city.

This ward is a predominant part of Maheshwaram Constituency represented by Minister of Education Sabitha Indra Reddy and Member of Parliament Ranjit Reddy. However, owing to its vast Muslim population, the ward was won by MIM in the last election.

It is pertinent to mention here that, following the demise of MIM councilor Nazia Begum last year, the by-election has become inevitable for which a notification has already been issued for holding election along with other wards in the state.

As the seat is reserved under women (General) category, the TRS party fielded Afsar Sutana represented by her husband Mohd Shaker Baig as its candidate from the ward. However, the party pulled out its candidate from the contest only to consolidate MIM’s position at neck of the moment.

With this, only the congress party candidate was left alone in the battle till last moment. However, successful lobbying of MIM senior leaders pays out as the candidate of main rival Congress party Zehra Nahdi represented by her husband Samad Bin Siddique too announced her withdrawal in favour of AIMIM candidate only a day ahead of the last date of withdrawal of nomination. This has paved the way for the MIM Party to win the election unanimously without facing any resistance from its opposition parties.

“We are thankful to both the candidates from TRS and Congress party for withdrawing from the contest as a mark of respect for the deceased counselor of AIMIM. We will together strive for the development of Ward No.28,” said Abdallah Sadi, Chairman Jalpally Municipality.
