Trump Criticizes Facebook and Twitter for Restricting an Article Related to Joe Biden

Washington: US President Donald Trump has criticized Facebook and Twitter for restricting the distribution of a New York Post article censuring Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The New York Post distributed a progression of stories on Wednesday referring to emails, purportedly sent by Biden’s son.

The reports asserted it received those emails from Trump’s private lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and Trump’s ex-advisor Steve Bannon, reported by NPR.org.

Facebook restricted the spread of the story which was shared, liked, or commented on just about 600,000 times on Facebook, as per information from CrowdTangle.

In an odd motion, Twitter blocked twitter users from posting photos of the emails or links to two of the New York Post’s stories, referring to its principles against sharing “content obtained through hacking that contains private information.”

Twitter said that the “pictures contained in the articles include personal and private data – like email addresses and telephone numbers – which break our guidelines”.

In any case, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recognized that the organization’s correspondence concerning why it was blocking the articles “was not great”.

He tweeted out: “Our communication around our actions on the @nypost article was not great. And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM with zero context as to why we’re blocking: unacceptable”.

The motion by Facebook and Twitter brought about a political tempest in the US and Trump, who is behind Biden in polls 20 days before the presidential election, criticized the two web-based media goliaths.

Trump tweeted that it was “so terrible that Facebook and Twitter took down the story”.

It is worth noting that Facebook didn’t delete it from its platform yet restricted its spread.

“There is nothing worse than a corrupt politician. REPEAL SECTION 230!!!”: Trump said in a tweet.

The president was pointing to the part of the 1996 Communications Decency Act that shields technology organizations from being sued over users’ content on their platform.

Trump utilized the article in an extended assault on the Bidens at the rally in Des Moines.

Representative Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican, blamed the organizations of “censorship” and his office said in an explanation that he had composed letters to Facebook’s Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, charging that they were attempting to affect the presidential election.

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri sent letters to Facebook and Twitter, pressing them on the choices to diminish distribution and blocking the story.

Twitter and Facebook have been acting all the more aggressively to control the spread of bogus claims and manipulation correlated with the political election.
