Keep Arrogance Aside and Give Farmers Their Rights: Rahul Gandhi

On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi again took a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi without directly taking his name, stating he needs to shun arrogance and give the rights to the protesting farmers.

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said everybody was indebted to the farmers for their efforts and this debt would be repaid simply by giving them justice.

The Wayanad MP said in a tweet: “Farmers are protesting on the streets and a ‘lie’ giving speeches on television. We all are indebted to the farmers for their hard work. And we can repay their debt by giving them justice and their rights, not by disrespecting them or by hitting them with lathis or tear-gas shells. Wake up, get down from a position of arrogance and think, and give the farmers their rights.”

A large number of farmers from many states have been arranging protests on Delhi borders since the previous week and demanding the repeal of three central agricultural laws.

A meeting with the farmers has been called by the government which will take place later in the day.

Farmers, mostly from Haryana and Punjab, are conducting protests at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders of the national capital against the Centre’s new agricultural laws.

The agitation by farmers seemed to increase regardless of a strong defense of the legislation by the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has alleged that the opposition is “playing tricks” on farmers again through misinformation.

The Congress on Monday started a social media campaign, with Gandhi saying, when farmers raise their voice, it resonates across the nation.

The former Congress chief said any place these farmers are protesting, the public and Congress workers should stand in their help and give them food.

He additionally shared a more than one-minute-long video as a part of the campaign in which the Congress party urged the government to listen to the complaints from the farmers and not use force against them.

The video additionally said that while the farmers are producing food grains to feed the nation, they are facing water cannons and lathis at the hands of the Modi government.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary, additionally joined the #SpeakUpForFarmers campaign and shared the same video pointing out the plight of the farmers.
