Renovation of Makkah Masjid not yet completed many years later

After coming to power, the KCR government announced that Telangana would be developed as a tourist destination. The Yadgirigutta Temple in Yadadri was renovated and rebuilt at a cost of thousands of crores. The archaeological marvel Makkah Masjid was also included in the renovation plan, but the progress has been very slow.

The renovation of Makkah Masjid has not been completed in the last eight years and the works are still ongoing. The state government completed reconstruction and development work on the Yadgirigutta Temple for Rs. 1800 crores, and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurated it in March of this year.

The state government appointed an IAS officer to supervise the construction of the Yadagirigutta temple on 14 acres of land, achieving a milestone by completing the work of the temple by 2022, which was started in 2016.

However, work on the historical Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad is still ongoing, and it appears that the state government and the Minority Welfare Department are uninterested in completing it anytime soon.

Neither the government nor the state minority welfare department are interested in seeing the projects done. The government of Telangana is not only neglecting the Muslims or the Muslim areas but their places of worship are also being heavily neglected.

Tourism activity increases in Telangana

In 2020, Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar reportedly informed the council that the renovations of Mecca Masjid were being completed.

During the question period in the upper house, Eshwar stated that the mosque has a 400-year history.

According to the minister, the state government has provided adequate funds for the purpose. He was reported as saying that approximately 90% of the Masjid work has been completed and the remainder will be completed soon.

We will protect its historic significance and preservation as the Corona pandemic delayed, said Eshwar.
