The Bahadurpura flyover in Hyderabad will be completed by March 31

A six-lane bi-directional flyover at Bahadurpura will be completed by March 31, and the facility is expected to ease the traffic congestion that has been the major problem in the Old City for decades.

The flyover’s construction is nearing completion, with officials aiming to complete the long-awaited project by March 31, according to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.

The Bahadurpura flyover is being built by the GHMC as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) project at a cost of Rs 69 crore. The 690-metre flyover will provide much-needed relief to commuters passing through the congested Bahadurpura junction. The flyover will also benefit visitors to the Nehru Zoological Park, according to officials.

While the foundation, ramps, crash barriers, and friction slabs have been completed, some civic works are proceeding at a rapid pace. Once the facility is available to the public, traffic at the Bahadurpura junction will be reduced, said Dattu Panth, GHMC Superintending Engineer, Projects Wing (Charminar Zone).

Many travel/tourist buses and heavy vehicles, including lorries, are parked on the Bahadurpura road. Aside from that, the area has grown in recent years, increasing traffic and footfall in the area. This flyover will ensure smooth travel, shorter commute times, and reduced pollution, officials said.

45 properties were acquired for the flyover, and Telangana State Southern Power Distribution utilities had to be relocated. Meanwhile, plans are in the works to develop greenery beneath the flyover as well as vertical gardens on the structure’s pillars.

This is not the only project going on in Bahadurpura. Another 4.048-kilometer-long flyover from Aramghar to Nehru Zoological Park is also under construction. After the 11.6km PVNR Expressway, this will be the city’s second-longest flyover.
