Trump Keeps Declaring Premature Victories in the Battleground States on Twitter

San Francisco: Twitter was having a great time in flagging tweets by US President Donald Trump as he prematurely declared triumph in the battleground states, challenging the social media platform’s policies against making premature election result claims.

Twitter began applying labels to the offending tweets not long after they were posted on Wednesday.

Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday and wrote, “We have claimed, for Electoral Vote purposes, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (which won’t allow legal observers) the State of Georgia, and the State of North Carolina, each one of which has a Big Trump lead.”

Trump’s premature declaration followed a surge of tweets from his inner circle announcing a false triumph in Pennsylvania, reports The Verge.

Trump’s son, Eric Trump, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, and the Trump re-election campaign’s Twitter account, @TeamTrump, all tweeted out messages prematurely announcing a Trump victory in Pennsylvania “within 10 minutes of each other”.

Trump campaign director Bill Stepien likewise told reporters that they had won Pennsylvania.

Over 1 million ballots are yet to be counted in Pennsylvania, and election officials are not legally required to complete their count before Friday. Above all, the president has no position to certify voting results; that authority rests with state election officials. No significant news organization has called the state for either competitor.

Trump’s declaration early Wednesday came after months during which he cast suspicion on the integrity of the political election and alleged without any kind of proof that an increase in mail-in voting prompted by the Coronavirus pandemic would lead to large voter fraud and a “rigged” election result.

As of late, the president kept up that the results of the current year’s election should be decided on election night, despite the fact that results are never finalized in that manner. It’s a common part of the electoral process for the ballot to be counted days or even a long time after voters go to the polls, however, news organisations usually make projections sooner.

The pressures between US President Donald Trump and social media platforms kept on simmering as Twitter prior mounted restrictions on one of his questionable tweets while Facebook put labels to the president’s posts that claimed election theft, while the vote counting was in progress.

As indicated by a CNN report on Thursday, ex-Vice President Joe Biden moved to within 17 electoral votes of procuring the presidency by winning the state of Michigan, in the most recent twist of a dramatic election clash.

The election stayed in suspense as the race heated significantly in Georgia and Pennsylvania.
