1.9 kg gold seized from eight passengers at Hyderabad airport

Based on inputs from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, customs officials intercepted eight passengers at the RGI Airport on Wednesday for smuggling gold. The suspects were found to have 1.89kg of gold in their possession.

A total of 232 grams (approximately) of gold were concealed in each passenger’s hand luggage. A total of 1.89kg of gold has been seized by customs officials.

The Hyderabad customs AIU-A batch intercepted a female passenger arriving from Dubai (flight EK528) on Tuesday. According to reports, the passenger concealed the gold inside the soles of her shoes.

Also on Wednesday, customs officials in Hyderabad intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai on flight 6E025. In order to smuggle the gold, the passenger pasted it on his back. 100 grams of gold were seized.

Seven passengers caught trying to smuggle cigarettes

On Wednesday, customs officials at RGI Airport apprehended seven passengers who arrived by flight GF274, 6E025; FZ435, G9458 for attempting to smuggle cigarettes (1 lakh numbers) and 100 e-cigarettes worth Rs. 11 lakhs.

On suspicion, customs officials searched the passengers’ luggage and discovered that they were attempting to smuggle cigarettes into the country illegally by deceiving customs officials. The goods have been seized. Further investigation is being conducted.

Similarly, customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here apprehended 14 passengers arriving from Sharjah and Dubai and seized cigarettes and e-cigarettes worth Rs 50 lakh last month.

Six passengers were detained in the incident while attempting to smuggle cigarettes and e-cigarettes from Sharjah

Customs officials confirmed that the passengers arrived via flight 6E1406. A total of 22,600 cigarettes and 940 e-cigarettes worth Rs 11.66 lakhs were seized.

Customs officers apprehended three passengers and seized the contraband on July 27. They, too, had arrived from Sharjah via flight 6E1406.

According to officials, the three passengers attempted to smuggle 40,800 cigarettes and 1010 e-cigarettes worth approximately Rs 14 lakhs.
