10 double-decker electric buses to be launched by TSRTC in Hyderabad

Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) plans to launch new electrical double-decker buses on Hyderabad roads soon. However, because each electric double-decker costs Rs. 2.25 crores, the TSRTC management intends to rent them first because the organization is already losing money and cannot afford to buy them right now. This will also make it the country’s first organization to hire double-decker buses.

According to the reports, a tender notification will be issued within four to five days. Companies interested in operating these buses will be asked to come forward under the cross-cost model.

The company that manages to get the tender must enter into an agreement with the company that operates the buses on a rental basis and supply these buses to the TSRTC, which will pay the company fixed rent based on per-kilometer charges.

In response to a user’s question about reintroducing double-decker buses in Hyderabad, IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted positively and directed Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar to look into the matter. TSRTC was preparing to introduce these buses at the time, and tenders for regular double-decker buses were also called, with Ashok Leyland getting the contract.

However, because the state government has not announced any financial assistance for the purchase of new buses, the RTC has decided to purchase them on a rental basis. But even so, this was also halted due to a lack of funds. The government was supposed to release Rs. 9 crores, but the funds were never received.

According to an RTC feasibility study, double-decker buses can operate on the Patancheru-Kothi (218), Jeedimetla-CBS (9X), and Afjalganj-Mehidipatnam (118) routes.

The ten buses that may be hired are said to be used on these routes because there are no flyovers running between them. However, on the Mehdipatnam route, there is a large foot-over bridge near NMDC, and it remains to be seen how the authorities will overcome that obstacle and run the much-anticipated double-decker bus through that route.
