13 Illegal Units at Ahmedabad Blast Site Sealed by Gujarat Authority

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) sealed 13 illegal units, running without any kind of permission and without acquiring any permits, in the Nanu Kaka estate, located on Pirana-Piplaj road in Ahmedabad where the chemical blast took more than twelve lives. The authorities gave notices to 18 other units additionally.

Vipul Mitra, the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Labor and Employment division of Gujarat government, stated that subsequent to the Ahmedabad chemical blast at Pirana-Piplaj road incident, the government had started strict steps for legal procedures to be taken against illegally operating industrial units in the state. After the government formed the special committee to limit occurrences like the Ahmedabad blast, the authorities have struck down on such units.

Besides, the AMC authorities clamped down on illegal constructions in Lambha and Vastral regions of Ahmedabad and identity units operating without approvals. The special committee established under the chairmanship of ACS gathered on Monday for an evaluation, where the AMC deputy commissioner, BK Mehta, GPCB chairman, Sanjeev Kumar, the member secretary of GPCB and the director of DISH and other government authorities participated.

Officials stated, “Each district collector has been directed to launch a campaign to seal industrial units which are illegal. The Action Taken Report of the joint survey will be submitted by November 13.” He added, “The Ahmedabad Collector has been asked to pay compensation to the family of the deceased as soon as possible.”

Vipul Mitra stated, “We have also directed all the district collectors to carry out special drives to identify and seal illegal industrial units in their concerned regions. They have additionally been told to give an action taken report on such action by November 13.”

The ACS notified that the committee board will present its report to the government on November 18.

Gujarat government additionally will present its report on the Ahmedabad blast case to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which had given notices to the government on the occurrence.
