AFRC warned Engg.Colleges against demanding extra fee

Conveying a clear warning to engineering colleges against receiving extra amount other then the fix amount of fee and involving in irregularities in the process of allocating seats under B category, the Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee (AFRC) has said that penalties will be slapped to such institutions who have been found involving in irregularities.

During a meeting, chaired by the Chairman  Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee P.Swaroop Reddy, several issues were discussed regarding demand of extra fee by the management of Engineering colleges in the City and elsewhere in the state.

During the meetings, it was unanimously decided to take stringent action against the institutions where their managements were found demanding fees more than the fixed amount against the government order.

The committee has also passed a resolution seeking imposition of a penalty of Rs.2 Lakhs per seat for demanding extra fees from the students by any management and Rs.10 Lakhs for illegally alloting seats for each case.

The Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee also urged the college managements to return the fee amount being received from the students at their earliest. Apart from this, the committee has referred the complaints regarding setting aside the applications filed under category ‘B’ to concerned college managements. However, the committee has decided to take stock of the seats being allocated under ‘B’ category.

During the meeting, the Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee has instructed the college managements to award admissions to those students who are eligible but were deprived from admissions. It is said that the state government has fixed the amount of fee for all the 159 engineering colleges and issued an order in this regard.

According to the government order, the minimum yearly fee of Rs.40,000 has been fixed for engineering streams by the government. The same pattern has to be implemented for the next three years as per the orders. However, over 40 college managements have been found receiving more than rupees one lakh as fee.
