AIMIM Chief Slams Centre’s Uniform Civil Code, Calls it a Diversionary Tactic

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed the Narendra Modi-led administration at the Centre for adopting the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He described the UCC as a political strategy to shift attention away from pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and inflation.

Owaisi provided the Law Commission with his party’s response as well as retired Judge Gopala Gowda’s legal opinion on the matter.Owaisi contended that the Law Commission’s notification made no suggestion for discussion and instead simply went back to earlier notifications.

As Justice Chauhan, who chaired the last Law Commission, remarked, a UCC is neither necessary nor desirable at this time. During the deliberations of the Constituent Assembly, BR Ambedkar recommended an optional UCC rather than a required one.

Owaisi stated that the current exercise lacks constitutional foundation and is a political ploy to divert attention away from real issues confronting the country. He stated that the UCC will eliminate certain practises and cited tribal hostility from across the country. He asked Prime Minister Modi to meet with the Gond community in Adilabad, Telangana, to debate the UCC, and he challenged the Chief Ministers of Goa and Assam to adopt the UCC in their respective states.

Owaisi also criticised Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s views on the UCC, urging that he resign and join the BJP officially. He remarked sarcastically on the Congress’s stance on the UCC, saying that their lack of clarity on the topic demonstrated party uncertainty.
