Allahabad High Court Suggests Complete Lockdown In Uttar Pradesh Amidst Rising Cases

Amidst the rising cases of the Covid 19, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to look into a possible lockdown in UP.

Allahabad High Court Restricts Public Gathering

As per the reports, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Yogi Adityanath government to look into a complete lockdown. However, it may not be imposed on the entire state but rather on certain districts where Covid 19 spread has increased alarmingly.

The Court further has said that the public gatherings must be restricted to only 50 people immediately. In an order released on Tuesday, the Court said that they understand that a complete lockdown may not be feasible for the state. But in the light of the current surge of Covid 19 cases, the government may look into complete lockdown in some districts.

This comes after the Allahabad High Court received a PIL related to the alarming Covid 19 situation. It was reviewed by a division bench including Justice Ajit Kumar and Justice Siddhartha Varma. The bench also made it clear that if anyone is found without masks in public, the court shall take it as an act of contempt for the police. Following this, the court will follow up with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Prayagraj, and other authorities.

Allahabad High Court Stresses On Speedy Vaccination Programme In The State

The Allahabad High Court has also said that the district administrations must religiously comply with the Covid 19 guidelines released by the state government on April 11. They said with the rising cases, it is important to push the speed of the Covid vaccination program towards a larger number of people.

The Court has also directed the Central government and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to reconsider extending the Covid 10 vaccines to the younger population especially the ones who are pursuing high school education.

The court said that if the board and other exam conducting bodies choose to take offline examinations, then the government must explore the option to provide Covid 19 vaccinations to students.

They also said that the night curfew or the corona curfew is just a small step towards curbing the pandemic spread. However, this only restricts the night parties and gatherings but public movement during the day times should also be checked.

With the rising cases, the Court acknowledged that there is a need to restrict public movement at least for a week or 10 days to break the spread chain. They further expressed concerns over insufficient infrastructure to treat the Covid patients.
The court has asked the government to arrange for contract-based manpower and acquire open areas in city areas and set up level 1 hospitals.
