Alt News co-founder Zubair condemns ANI’s religious bias in reporting rape

Mohammed Zubair, co-founder and editor of Alt News, condemned ANI’s religious bias in reporting rape cases.

He tweeted about a rape in Hyderabad that occurred on October 30. It was reported that two men raped a woman on October 30. The news was carried by ANI with the names of the alleged accused, who are Muslims.

The name of the accused in another case of rape involving a five-year-old child in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was conveniently hidden by ANI.

“Two tweets by ANI today, in first tweet, Names of the rape accused Ibrahim & Mirza baig mention in the tweet. In the second tweet, the name of the rape accused (Ajay Kumar) is not mentioned in their tweet,” Zubair tweeted.

Zubair denies posting content for popularity

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, who is being investigated for allegedly posting an objectionable tweet against a Hindu deity in 2018, denied before the Delhi High Court that he posted the content that triggers religious sentiments to gain popularity.

According to Zubair, the Delhi police attributed “false and concocted theories” to him in the name of “disclosure statements,” which is a “subversion of the rule of law” and a “mockery of due process,” and that the search and seizure from his residence were carried out for malicious reasons.

Following the filing of a status report by the Delhi Police on the investigation into the case, he claimed that he had not made any disclosure statement to the agency regarding the recovery of certain devices and that any such disclosure is “wholly false, wrong, concocted, and inadmissible in law.”

In its status report filed in September, Delhi Police informed the court that during Zubair’s police custody remand, one laptop, two invoices, and a hard disc were recovered from his Bengaluru residence based on a disclosure statement that was admissible under the Indian Evidence Act and must be considered during the trial.

The status report was submitted in response to a plea by Zubair against his arrest and search and seizure in the case.
