Andhra man threatens to hang during video call with wife, accidentally kills self:

Amaravati: A man wanted to threaten his wife working in Kuwait by attempting suicide on a video call and accidentally hanged himself. The tragic incident occurred in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday, police said.

G. Ganesh (35), a resident of Malakapalli village in Tallapudi ‘Mandal’ (block) of the district, wanted his wife working in Kuwait to return home. While on a video call with her, he again asked her to come back to India. It was when she turned him down that he went ahead and threatened to end his life to instill fear in her and get her back.

Family members told police that the couple had strained their relationship. They had an argument during the video call. In a manner to threaten her that he would end his life if she refused to return, the man stood on a cot and tied a noose around his neck and tied the other end of the rope to the fan.

However, while attempting to intimidate his wife, he slipped and inadvertently hanged himself. The entire conversation including the video call was recorded on the victim’s phone.

Police have shifted the body to the government hospital at Kovvur and registered a case. They were also questioning their family members regarding the incident. A police officer said they have taken up the investigation based on the video call recorded in Ganesh’s mobile phone and the couple’s conversation saved which will prove to be beneficial for the case.

While there have been incidents of people killing themselves during a video call with their spouses or lovers, this was a terrible incident in which the man’s attempt to threaten suicide proved to be costly for him.

In a similar incident April last year, a youth in Tirupati while enacting a prank suicide over a video call fell victim to it. The 25-year-old had made a video call to his friend living in the same town saying he was going to commit suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan. As the youth was addicted to liquor, his friend did not take his words seriously. While tying a lasso with a saree around his neck, he accidentally hanged himself.

There have been many reports of incidents involving the accidental death of the victims while they were trying to do a stunt or prove something in a way to their friends. A minor boy accidentally choked himself to death last month while shooting a video for TikTok.

In another report, while trying to complete a TikTok challenge, a newlywed man crushed himself to death. The victim, Kapil, had suddenly lost control of the steering and the tractor overturned crushing him. In a similar incident, a man drowned in a canal in Meerapur area of Muzaffarnagar while making TikTok. Cases of accidental intake of insecticide are also reported.

Accidental deaths have become common in India where alcohol or rage driven individuals create scenarios that result in serious injuries, if not death. By taking up simple necessary precautions, such fatal accidents can be avoided. Music apps that allow users to enact a particular movie or song scene should be used for the purpose which it was made for, rather than making it a way to gain followers and put up acts of self-injury for fame or
