Are we living in Pakistan?: Harshika Poonacha

Kannada actress Harshika Poonacha and her husband Bhuvan Ponnanna were allegedly attacked in early April at the parking lot of a Bengaluru restaurant for speaking in Kannada, according to police reports. The couple filed a complaint with Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayanada, leading to a case being registered on Saturday.

The incident occurred on April 2, but gained attention weeks later when Poonacha shared a video of the incident on social media. Ponnanna stated that while in their car at the parking lot of Karama restaurant in Pulikeshi Nagar, a stranger approached them and made disparaging remarks about speaking Kannada.

A group of around 20-30 people joined the stranger, speaking in various languages including Hindi and Urdu. The gang allegedly assaulted Ponnanna, attempting to snatch his gold chain and mobile phone. Poonacha tried to seek help from a nearby police officer but claims they were told to file a complaint at the police station.

Poonacha expressed concerns about safety in her city and questioned the incident, noting the faces of the attackers were clearly visible in the video. Pulakeshi Nagar police have registered a case against the alleged attackers under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to damage, wrongful restraint, and attempted robbery.

Initially hesitant to file a complaint, Poonacha stated that their well-wishers advised them to take action for the safety of the public.
