Assam floods to further worsen as rains continues

The flood scenario in Assam continued to remain worsen. According to the Met Department of Assam over 63,000 people are still affected by the floods across five districts.

MeT Department forecasting more rainfall in the state in the coming days. The death toll stood at 32.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Dhubri recorded 49 mm of rains, North Lakhimpur 27.2 mm, Tinsukia 13 mm and Tezpur 12 mm.

Brahmaputra river has already been flowing above the danger mark and with rains in the offing, the situation in Assam as far as the floods are concerned will remain the same and in fact even worsen in the coming days.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal of all assistance from the Centre to tide over the situation. A Home Ministry official said in New Delhi yesterday that Mr Singh spoke to the Chief Minister over phone and took stock of the flood situation in the state. The Home Minister said all possible support is being provided to Assam and other northeastern states for overcoming the flood situation.
