At least 52 killed as TSRTC bus with 88 falls into valley near Kondagattu, Several injured

Kondagattu: In a ghastly bus accident at Kondagattu in Jagtial district on Tuesday, 52 commuters were killed and several others, who suffered critical injuries were rushed to hospitals.

According to the information, the ill-fated TSRTC bus, carrying 88 passengers, lost control and fell into the valley at Kondagattu Ghat Road last turn. Till now, 52 bodies were recovered. The police have shifted eight seriously injured to Karimnagar and Hyderabad for treatment. Some were taking treatment at Jagtial hospital. There were 25 women among the deceased.

The Jagtial District Collector Sharat and SP Sindhi Sharma rushed to the spot immediately. The bus of the Jagtial depot, which was scaling the Ghat Road to reach the Anjanna temple, fell into the valley at last turn of the Ghat Road as the bus lost control while crossing the speed breaker.

According to commuters, the bus started from Shanivarampet. The officials identified 35 bodies till now and 30 among them were from Shanivarampet and Himmathraopet. The driver also died in the accident and the condition of conductor was serious. The police shifted the deceased to Jagtial hospital. They will hand over the bodies to their relatives after post mortem. It is learnt that the accident took place as the commuters bent towards the driver as a result of which the bus dived into the valley.

Among the deceased 25 were women and seven children. On knowing the tragic incident, several local youth, police and revenue officials plunged into rescue operations and extricated the commuters struck in the bus. Relatives of the deceased have alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the driver.

Cries of family members, relatives and friends of the deceased reverberated the area. Grief loomed large at the hospitals with cries. The Kondagattu temple, which wears festive look every day with devotees, turned into a sea of sorrow.

Care-taker Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, AP Minister Nara Lokesh, Governor ESL Narasimhan, Congress leaders K Jana Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and others expressed their shock over the incident. They expressed their deep condolences to the families of the bereaved. KCR announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia each to the bereaved families.

KCR shocked, announces Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to kin

Caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today expressed shock at the ghastly bus accident in which about 52 persons were killed at Kondagattu in Jagitial district. The government announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the kin of deceased family members.

KCR also expressed condolences to the bereaved family members. KCR enquired about the incident and asked the officials to prevent such incidents in future by taking necessary measures. He directed the officials to provide better treatment and health services to the injured in the incident. On his directive the officials rushed them to nearby hospitals and to Hyderabad.

Governor shocked over the bus accident at Kondagattu

Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana E.S.L. Narasimhan expressed shock over the bus accident at Kondagattu in Jagityal district. The Governor said that he is pained by the loss of precious lives and injuries to several passengers in the bus accident.

The Governor had spoken to the District Collector and said that immediate relief measures be taken up to provide necessary medical treatment to those injured in the bus accident.

The Governor offered his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families, who lost their loved ones. (NSS)
