Bhadrachalam and Burgampad mandals enforce Section 144 after Godavari crosses 60 feet

Several villages and towns in north Telangana districts have been inundated by massive inflows at irrigation projects, overflowing rivulets, streams, tanks, lakes, canals, and other bodies. Road transport has been disrupted, and normal life has been paralyzed.

A rapid rise in the river Godavari water level has been observed at Bhadrachalam in the district, where it was flowing above the danger level at 12 noon. Since 1976, the river had crossed the 60-foot mark eight times. Because of the flood, Bhadrachalam’s bridge across the Godavari will be closed from 5 p.m. on Thursday. The District Collector Anudeep Durishetty informed people not to enter the streets in Bhadrachalam and Burgampad mandals because Section 144 has been imposed.

People should be aware that vehicular traffic on the bridge will be closed for the next 48 hours, thereby stopping their movement. It is important that the community cooperates with the district administration, he said. At KGBV Nagineniprolu in Burgampad Mandal and at Sarapaka BPL School in Burgampad Mandal, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar interacted with flood-evacuees at Godavari karakatta and flood rehabilitation centers.

Flood waters gradually invaded Burgampad village, prompting the minister to tell residents to evacuate immediately. My suggestion to people was that rehabilitation centers should provide all the facilities, such as good food, drinking water, and electricity, to ensure that they had a comfortable stay. There was a medical camp arranged there that Ajay Kumar visited and inquired about the medicines available. In case any necessary medicines are required, they should be notified as soon as possible so that they can be procured.

Ajay Kumar was instructed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to stay put at Bhadrachalam in order to monitor the situation and evacuate people from the flooded areas as soon as possible due to the rising flood waters in the Godavari. Consequently, people living in the low-lying areas should attend rehabilitation centers as there may be a release of 17,40,804 cubic seconds from the upper reaches of Godavari. Bhadrachalam is affected by flooding, so he advised people to postpone their trips there.

There were several people accompanying the minister, including Parliamentary Whip Rega Kantarao, ZP Chairman Koram Kanakaiah, former MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana, and Superintendent of Police Vineeth G, among others.
