Biennial Polls In 4 States To Be Conducted On December 10; Election Commission

The Election Commission on Tuesday announced that voting in the biennial election to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana Legislative Councils and Maharashtra will be conducted on December 10.

Polling Schedule 

As per reports, in Maharashtra, the polling will be held across five local authorities constituencies for six seats because of retirement of the sitting members. The Election Commission said in a statement. The term of office of eight sitting individuals from the Maharashtra Legislative Council from seven such supporters is finishing on January 1, 2022.

In Andhra Pradesh, polling will be held for 11 seats as the term of as many sitting individuals from the Legislative Council from eight Local Authorities’ supporters had lapsed on August 11, 2021.

In Karnataka, polling will held in 25 seats as term of as many sitting individuals from the Legislative Council from 20 Local Authorities’ supporters will lapse on January 5, 2022.

In Telangana, polling will be held for 12 seats as the term of office of as many sitting individuals from the Legislative Council from nine Local Authorities’ supporters will lapse on January 4, 2022. Warning for the polls will be given on November 16 and the last date for recording assignments is November 23, the survey body said.

Scrutiny will be hung on November 24, and last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 26. Counting of decisions in favor of the polls will be hung on December 14The Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the constituencies concerned.

The Chief Secretaries of the states concerned are being directed to depute a senior officer from to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the election.
