Hyderabad: Telangana BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy has demanded that the TRS government release water from SRSP immediately and save standing crops of the farmers who have been agitating to save their crop in Nizamabad district.
Speaking to media the BJP leader said the government should not take it as a prestige issue as farmers on the banks of kakatiya canal are irrigating their fields for the last 30 years. He said the farmers are demanding just 1.5 tmc of water from SRSP which has presently 15.5 tmc water to prevent their crops withering. The farmers did not want anything, they just want water to save their crops, Kishan Reddy said.
Terming the TRS government as anti-farmers he alleged that the TRS came to power after Telangana movement. But it is taking action against the farmers who are agitating for their justifiable demand. The TRS government has hand cupped farmers who demanded MSP for their product and they were lathicharged and sent to jail when they wanted water for their crops, Kishan Reddy said. The BJP leader asked the government to withdraw cases filed against farmers and also BJP leaders who expressed their solidarity with farmers justified demands. He also demanded to release jailed farmers unconditionally. (NSS)
