BJP eyes Hyderabad muncipal elections after beating TRS in bypolls

After gaining a boost to their confidence, thanks to the bypoll elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party is now eyeing Hyderabad to secure its power. The dubakka bypolls gave BJP the much needed hold in the capital of Telangana, considered as the second IT hub of India.

As such, the BJP has started taking up regimes to monitor the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections (GHMC) that could be held anytime soon after its announcement.

According to the report from the Election Commission of India, the Dubakka bypolls fetched BJP a shocking victory with 1,079 more votes than the ruling party of Telangana, TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi), which was the prime director in guiding the path for the formation of Telangana.

Hence, the BJP has shifted it’s gears to grab the rule of Hyderabad. The party has asked Bhupender Yadav, its national secretary who played a key role in directing BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) to victory in Bihar, to plan out political strategies for the Hyderabad elections.

The Rajya Sabha member is the centre ruling party’s in-charge of operations in Bihar. The BJP was able to land it’s historic win in Bihar, beating even JDU, with the monitoring and handling of Mr. Yadav. Bihar elections helped BJP gain 72 seats, being the single party with the highest number of votes, compared to its ally JDU (Janata Dal United) of Nitish Kumar that managed to get just 42 seats in the Assembly results last week.

Following this and the bypolls, a confident BJP has also selected leaders to formulate a team for observing the GHMC elections and cracking it. Its members include Maharashtra BJP leader Ashish Shelar, Gujarat leader Pradeep Singh Waghela, Karnataka health minister and Karnataka’s Assembly member Satish Reddy. Along with this, there has also been an announcement of an election management team comprising of 23 members belonging to the state itself.

Opposed to the previous years, the TRS will have to face a stiff competition with BJP all geared up and aiming for KCR’s position. However, the party has long been attacking the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao claiming about alterations and irregularities in the distribution of compensation packages to the flood victims.

Nevertheless, the Telangana government has continued to serve the residents of its state despite the severe hit of the pandemic with a 50% relief in property taxes to those people who are paying Rs.15,000 under GHMC. This comes even after the government has faced all-time low revenue collections due to the awful times of 2020.
