BJP leaders urge Governor to send back Municipalities Bill for reconsideration

Hyderabad: The State BJP today sought intervention of the Governor in the issue of the newly proposed Municipalities Act and urged him to send back the Bill as several provisions are against the basic structure of the Constitution, unscientific method in constituting Municipalities and Municipal Corporations, hasty manner in conducting elections to the Urban Local Bodies and so on.

A delegation of party leaders comprising former Union minister of State Bandaru Dattatraya, State BJLP leader T Raja Singh, former minister DK Aruna, former MLA Ramachandra Reddy and P Chandrasekhar called on the Governor and submitted a representation to him. In the representation, they informed the Governor  that Telangana State Legislature passed the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019 on July 19, and sent it to Raj Bhavan for assent.

They said the State government had created new municipal corporations like  Badangpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Jawaharnagar and Nizampet by adopting an unscientific method. They also said no specific reason was given before creating the municipalities.  They urged the Governor to send back the bill for re-consideration with regard to powers of the State Election Commission under Section 195 (1) of the Bill and constitution of Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in unscientific manner and direct the government to follow scientific method in constituting Municipalities and Municipal Corporations and adhere to the affidavit filed by the government in the High Court in regard to pre-election process for conducting municipal elections.
