In the run-up to the Telangana Assembly elections, BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri questioned the support given to Telangana president Minister KCR (Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao) by All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi.
Dharmapuri expressed worry over the treatment of Muslims in the state, as well as the apparent inequality in assistance for other underprivileged groups.
Dharmapuri noted that both Muslims and Dalits are marginalized groups in society, but KCR’s policies appear to favor Dalits substantially more. He highlighted the disparity in financial assistance, pointing out that KCR’s administration allotted 10 lakhs (1 million rupees) for the Dalit Bandhu plan but only 1 lakh (100,000 rupees) for the Muslim Bandhu initiative. He questioned the approach’s equality, as well as whether Muslims were placed lower than Dalits or had a lesser population.

Furthermore, Dharmapuri questioned Asaduddin Owaisi’s support for KCR, who is regarded to be harsh to Muslims. He questioned the importance of religion politics in the political landscape of the state, underlining that the BJP does not indulge in such activities and instead encourages equality for all individuals. Dharmapuri said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP regard everyone as equals and that PM Modi is a world-renowned leader.
The BJP, the governing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and the Congress are set to compete in the 2019 Telangana Assembly election. BRS earned a large majority in the last Assembly election in 2018, with 88 out of 119 seats and a vote share of 47.4%. With a vote percentage of 28.7%, Congress won 19 seats.
