Rajamahendravaram: A tragic incident took place in East Godavari district today. Four persons were missing in an incident that took place when a country boat overturned in Godavari river today at Pashuvullanka in I.Polavaram mandal.
The country boat started from Saladivaripalem Lanka to Pashuvullanka with 30 people. The boat overturned when it hit the pillar of the bridge, which was under construction, at Mondillanka dock. It is learnt that most of the people travelling in the boat were students. They were all the students of classes below 10th Class. The local people saved 26 persons already and they are yet to identify the missing four people. The police and local officials reached the spot and reviewing the situation. The search was going on to trace the missing people. The incident took place in a Vrudha Gouthami Paya, which was near to sea. The boat hit the pillar due to intense current of the river as the flood water coming from Dawaleshwaram. After the incident, some students escaped from the incident while climbing the nearby pillar. Fishermen and locals saved others.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over the incident. He asked the officials to furnish the details of the incident. The Chief Minister alerted the revenue officials and police in this regard. The Chief Minister directed the collector and other officials to review the situation at the place where incident took place. (NSS)
