BRS to initially focus on Maharashtra and Karnataka for expansion

TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao said on Friday that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the new name adopted by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), will initially focus on Maharashtra and Karnataka to expand its activities, but its target will be the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He stated that because the Telangana model is more well-known in neighboring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, the national party will concentrate its efforts on these states.

Rama Rao, also known as KTR, told reporters that Karnataka Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy has agreed to collaborate with BRS. He, however, dodged questions about whether the BRS would collaborate with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

People in parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, he said, were demanding that their respective state governments replicate the Telangana schemes.

KTR also declined to answer questions about BRS plans for Andhra Pradesh. When asked if BRS would contest elections in states such as Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

While the BRS will aim for parliamentary elections in 2024, the party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will decide whether to run in Assembly elections in some states before then.

KTR stated that the idea behind TRS going national is to take the Telangana model and bring real issues faced by people to the forefront of national political discourse.

The TRS working president stated that the BRS would expose the BJP and the Narendra Modi government’s failures.

“We want to promote the vibrant Telangana model to the rest of India. We want to expose BJP which raises certain issues to polarise people to create confusion and win elections. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are our target. We need both time and opportunity to prove ourselves,” he said.

He stated that the TRS had fought a long battle for Telangana and that the BRS was now ready to fight a long battle to steer the country’s political discourse in the right direction.

“In the eight years since its formation, Telangana has successfully demonstrated to the country a new model of governance.  We have pioneered, releasing benchmarking and path-breaking flagship projects. We are extremely proud of what we have delivered and accomplished,” he said.

Telangana, according to KTR, demonstrated to the rest of the country that farmers can receive 24-hour free electricity and that every house can receive potable water. He claimed that the youngest state had overcome the issue of electricity insufficiency. Telangana’s schemes enabled its farmers to compete with farmers in Punjab and Haryana in terms of yield.
