Cases of canine attack on cattle and humans on the rise in city outskirts

With the winter season reaching a crescendo, the craving dog bite cases too are on the rise, especially in Jalpally municipality. Most of the cases are being reported from Pahadi Shareef and surrounding wards where densely populated colonies are open to all kinds of nuisance like garbage dumping, illegal pig rearing and canine infiltration.

While the cases of dogs attacking on rearing cattle are common in these areas, few cases of canine assailing on local people especially children are also reported recently that raise many eyebrows. Complaints pouring in from different areas regarding dog attacks have suggested that the municipality has to gear up for now to address the issue before more people get attacked by the canines.

Only three months ago, a dog attacked a cattle shed and killed almost two dozen goats. But that was not the least incident in Pahadi Shareef area. Only last week the dogs convulsed again on the cattle herd and injured the goats severely. The brutal dog attack saw an eye of one of the goats gouged completely out that left the local people enraged.

As no measures were taken to curb the attack of wild beasts, another incident came to light on December 21, where another goat was grievously injured in a similar attack.

We were repeatedly brought the matter to the notice of local representatives and the municipality officials but to no avail. The thirsty dogs are gone on a killing spree and not even sparing the common people leave along the cattle being reared by the people. We are already perturbed by the nuisance like garbage dumping and boar rearing in our area, now the canine attacks on cattle make the situation even more pathetic and alarming. Raising the issue on the GHMC online grievance cell also yield no result and the case was closed simply without addressing the complaint,” bemoaned Mohammed Aleem, a local resident of Pahadi Shareef area.

However, these issues and incidents are not just by fluke. Garbage carted away from surrounding areas being dumped near Ward No.19 and 20, while boar rearing by few people in the area also fermenting the issue.
