Centre continues to reject Telangana’s appeal for turmeric board, rail coach factory in State

The BJP government at the Centre continues to reject Telangana’s appeal for a turmeric board and a rail coach factory in the state.

The state government has made several requests to the union government, including the establishment of a turmeric board in Nizamabad and a Rail Coach factory in Kazipet. In the Lok Sabha, BRS MPs raised concerns about this.

BRS MPs Venkatesh Netha, P Dayakar, G Ranjith Reddy, and Malothu Kavitha raised a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday about the constraints the union government is facing in establishing a Turmeric Board in Nizamabad.

The union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel stated that the Spices Board, a statutory autonomous body established under the Spices Board Act of 1986, was entrusted with the responsibility of promoting 52 spices, including turmeric, coriander and chilies. As a result, no proposal to establish a turmeric board or any other spice-specific board in the country is being considered, she added.

It is worth noting that during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP MP from Nizamabad D Aravind promised voters that he would prevail the union government to establish a turmeric board in Nizamabad.

Similarly, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw categorically stated that there was no proposal to set up a rail coach factory in Telangana.

In response to BRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao’s question in Lok Sabha about whether the union government has any plans to sanction a railway coach factory to Telangana as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the union Minister stated that there was no proposal under consideration for setting up of a rail coach factory in Telangana.

Indian Railways sanction rail coach factories based on rolling stock requirements. He added that the factories that have already been approved are sufficient to meet Indian Railways’ rolling stock requirements in the near future.
