Chandrababu Naidu exudes confidence that TDP will regain glory in Telangana

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national President Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed confidence on Tuesday that his party would regain full glory in Telangana.

Speaking to TDP leaders and workers at the party’s Telangana headquarters here, the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister expressed confidence that the party will regain its glory. He urged party cadres to work hard to reestablish the TDP as a major political force in Telangana.

Naidu, who served as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, claimed that if Telangana has achieved huge progress and today emerged as the number one state in the country, it was because of the foundation laid by the TDP.

“If you see Hitec City, Cyberabad, Airport, Metro and Genome Valley, the effort made by the TDP is clearly visible,” he said.

Naidu also stated that after the bifurcation, Telangana’s economy improved and marched forward because subsequent Chief Ministers did not halt development and did not resort to destruction. “In Andhra Pradesh, there was destruction, development was halted, and people’s lives were thrown into darkness,” he said, exuding confidence that the TDP will retake power in the state.

This was Naidu’s first visit to Hyderabad since being re-elected as TDP President at the party’s annual conclave in Rajahmundry.

Naidu’s visit and meeting with Telangana TDP leaders is also significant in light of his June 3 meeting in Delhi with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President J.P. Nadda.

The TDP President’s meeting with Amit Shah, the first since 2018, came amid reports that the TDP and BJP are keen to resurrect their Telugu alliance.

Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled for the end of 2023, while Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections will take place alongside Lok Sabha elections next year.

“I have no doubt that after these two elections, the TDP will emerge as the most powerful party of Telugus,” Naidu stated at a meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The TDP left the BJP-led NDA in 2018 over the issue of Andhra Pradesh’s special category status. The party ran in the 2018 Assembly elections in coalition with Congress and smaller parties, but it was defeated.

In Andhra Pradesh, the TDP went in alone but was defeated by the YSR Congress Party. Following the crushing defeat, Naidu softened his stance toward the BJP and is now eager to work with it in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
