City mayor instructs electricity board to install streetlights in Hyderabad

A directive from city mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi on Wednesday will see electricity authorities improving the management of street lights across the city. She met with officials from the Urban Community Development Department of the Electricity Department to discuss street light maintenance.

She recommended installing new street lights in non-lit streets, as well as taking strong measures to avoid any rain-related accidents.

Several complaints about streetlights being turned on in the afternoon were received from residents, the mayor said. To prevent the same from happening, she instructed officials to take the necessary measures.

Several steps have been taken to prevent power supply problems, including coordination with Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL).

Also, under the direction of Mayor Vijayalakshmi, GHMC officials have been assigned to remove tree branches that are across the power lines in coordination with the UBD department so that the trees do not disrupt the electricity distribution system.

Electricity board warns against fraudulent messages

The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSSPDCL) has warned residents not to fall for fraudulent messages purporting to collect unpaid electricity bills.

The electricity board informed consumers on Tuesday that TSSPDCL employees will never collect bank account/debit/card/credit card details, except for payment of the receipt bill.

According to the release, the initial method of fraud was to send messages to electricity consumers under the guise of collecting pending electricity bills. They then threaten the customer with power outages if the payment is not made immediately. Then they take the consumer’s bank or credit or debit card information and rob them.

Consumers can obtain information on current consumption bills and arrears by visiting the TSSPDCL official website or downloading the TSSPDCL mobile app.

Consumers who complain about bill payments can register them online and contact the section officer to redress their grievances.
