Conflicts in Srinagar after police stop Muharram procession

Many of the grievers were harmed throughout the end of the week in Srinagar after security forces shot pellets and tear shells on Muharram processions at Bemina and Zadibal, even as police said more than 15 of its staff were harmed in stone-pelting.

The photographs of the individuals who were harmed in pellet firing circulated the web on social media.

Suhail, one of those harmed in Bemina on Saturday, said police terminated pellets on a tranquil parade.

“It was a peaceful procession,” he told. “I was hit with pellets and a rubber bullet.”

Whereas the police in an announcement on Sunday informed that in Srinagar, Muharram processions were taken out at many of the places and members were pelted stones when told processions were not permitted in the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per police, a large portion of processions withdrew calmly however at few places, the members began pushing police and even depended on stone-pelting.

The Police said that “During intense stone pelting, more than 15 police personnel were grievously injured and immediately hospitalized,”

Police said an FIR has been enrolled and investigations have been taken up.
