Covid-19 situation in Telangana remains under control, say health officials

According to health officials, the Covid-19 situation in Telangana is under control. The statistics for the last week show that the daily count of cases has remained fluctuating between 20 and 30, as it did in March.

The state recorded 29 new cases on April 7. A total of 5,029 samples were tested, according to the director of public health and family welfare.

There were also 21 recoveries on the day. The recovery rate stood at 99.49%. There were no new deaths reported.

The director of public health said that 154 Covid cases are under treatment/isolation. On April 6, the state reported 21 new cases while the number was 26 a day before.

Every day, the majority of the 33 districts report zero or one case. However, a residential school reported 15 cases for the first time in recent months. Students of tribal welfare boys residential school in Mahabubabad district tested positive for Covid-19.

According to health officials, this was an isolated incident and there was no need to panic.

The highest daily count of 54 in the last couple of months was recorded on March 15. Throughout March, the figures fluctuated between 15 and 40.

The Centre issued an advisory to six states, including Telangana, last month in response to the rising number of cases. It directed the state to examine the situation at the micro level (districts and sub-districts) and maintain a focus on implementing necessary measures for prompt and effective management.

The ministry also recommended the test-track-treat-vaccination strategy. Health Minister T. Harish Rao has urged people not to panic, but to remain vigilant and follow appropriate precautions in order to combat the rise in positive infections.

He stated that all eligible individuals must receive booster Covid vaccines in government hospitals. The state government also requested additional Covid booster shots from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With the Centre instructing states to obtain Covid vaccines and booster shots directly from the market, the Telangana government decided to procure 15 lakh doses from Hyderabad-based Biological E in order to resume vaccination.

Health officials and doctors say that the current situation is not a cause for concern. They noted that Covid-19 cases begin to rise in March, and a similar pattern was observed during the first three waves.

They say that Covid is on the verge of becoming endemic, but people in high-risk groups should take precautions. Children, the elderly, and those with co-morbidities are among those included in the group.

The health department has also stated that the recent Covid increase is unrelated to the viral fever outbreak. Healthcare professionals say that the Covid-19 pandemic is not fully out of our lives.

They stated that the Indian ecosystem dealt with the pandemic effectively, but the recent increase in infection numbers clearly indicates that coronavirus is still present in our lives and that we must remain vigilant and not allow the virus to get the better of us.

“Coronavirus taught us doctors that we can never stop learning and must be prepared to handle newer challenges that come our way. From the Indian society’s perspective, the Covid-19 pandemic has once again reiterated the golden rule, prevention is better than cure,” said Dr. Kishore B Reddy, MD, Amor Hospital.

“The Covid-19 cases are once again on the rise in India. While this should not scare us, it is important we stay cautious and ensure the virus does not get the better of us,” said Dr. Praveen Kumar Kulkarni, Consultant Physician & Diabetologist, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad.
