CPI serves ultimatum to Congress on seats

Hyderabad: One of the grand alliance partners, CPI (Communist Party of India) reportedly issued an ultimatum to Congress Party over the issue of allocation of seats on Sunday. The party has made it clear to its major ally that it would come out of the alliance if the demand of the party to allot five assembly seats was not conceded by the Congress party.

The left party has convened an emergency meeting of the party leaders to discuss on the issue. The state secretary of the party Chada Venkat Reddy chaired the meeting. The party leaders have expressed their displeasure over the handling of the issue by the Congress party. “We will not continue in the alliance if the seats we demanded were not conceded to us. We have asked the Congress party to leave Husnabad, Kothagudem, Bellempally, Wyra and Manchiriyal assembly seats to our party. If these seats are not allotted to us, we will come out of the grand alliance,” a senior party leader said.

A couple of days back, addressing media persons in Delhi, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that they had decided to concede 24 seats to the alliance partners. Of this, 14 seats would be given to the TDP and the remaining seats would be divided between TJS and CPI. Some media reports suggested that CPI would be given only three assembly segments. But, the media leakages did not go down with the CPI and prompted its state secretary Venkat Reddy to call for an emergency meeting of the party leaders to take a final call on the issue of continuation of the party in the grand alliance. (NSS)
