Delhi court takes cognizance of defamation case by Republic TV against Times Now anchor Navika Kumar

A Delhi court has taken cognizance of the 49-page defamation complaint filed by Republic TV’s parent company ARG Outlier Media Private Limited against Times Now’s anchor Navika Kumar for allegedly making defamatory comments against the channel and its founder Arnab Goswami in connection with the alleged WhatsApp chats mentioned in the Mumbai Police’s charge sheet filed in the TRP scam case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chander Jit Singh took cognizance of the matter and slated it to June 8 for pre-summoning evidence.

The complaint filed by Republic TV refers to the statements made by Times Now prime time anchor Navika Kumar in connection with the chats of Republic TV founder and Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on her show on 18th January.

The complaint alleged that Navika made rabid and unfounded claims accusing Republic Media Network’s founder of endangering national security and leaking state secrets, thereby jeo pardising the goodwill of the network and endangering the entire organization.

The plaintiff company claimed that the scale of defamation faced by it was irreparable. Republic TV went on to state that the complainant is jealous and the lack of her ability to match the success of accused’s company has led to the defamatory show to be aired on national television.

It further said that it is not only outright falsehood and utter fabrication of facts, but is also a defamatory statement made to a large universal audience in order to prejudice their mind, eclipse them from true facts and influence them through the wholly misleading broadcast.
Further, the plaintiff stressed that Navika cannot be permitted to steal a march over the adjudication process and pronounce someone guilty by elevating herself a parallel adjudication forum as the trial has yet not begun.
