Delhi Government Slashes Dry Days From 21 to 3

In a notice given on Monday, the Delhi government reported that as a component of its new alcohol strategy, the quantity of ‘dry days’ in the national capital has been decreased from 21 to 3 beginning this year.

According to the warning, Delhi will notice three dry days from now into the foreseeable future – – Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). Censuring the move, Delhi BJP media head Naveen Jindal told IANS, “The AAP-drove Delhi government is against Gandhi. (Mahatma) Gandhi was against alcohol and this administration has permitted wine shops to stay open on Martyrs Day on January 30, which denotes the death of Gandhiji. The Arvind Kejriwal government is wanting to open wine shops at each side of the national capital, which is unfortunate.”

Prior, the dry days numbered 21 remembering for the birth commemoration of great leaders and religious celebrations. The business premises of a licensee will be kept shut on a dry day.

In 2021, the dry days had been seen on Holi, Diwali, Janmashtami, Muharram, Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid), Good Friday, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Buddha Purnima, Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Dussehra, and different events.

The request given on Monday said that separated from the three dry days, the public authority might proclaim some other day in the year as ‘Dry Day’ now and again.
