Dry monsoon- Zero possibility of rain in Hyderabad for next 2-3 days

The week commenced on a dry note for Hyderabad as the temperature remained warm with no sign of rain except light drizzling in certain places. This makes a similar opening of last week that did not witness any heavy downpours as seen in mid-July.

Monday logged a maximum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius and Tuesday was no different.

Director of IMD, Hyderabad, Dr K Nagaratna, said there is zero possibility of rain hitting the city for the next 2-3 days. This duration, termed as the “Break Monsoon”, happens after the monsoon trough moves closer to the Himalayan foothills, he said, adding that this phenomenon will scale the temperatures in Hyderabad by two to three degrees in the near future.

Nevertheless, the monsoon will take its full bloom version in the second week of August with rains across Telangana. “Although we cannot predict the intensity right now, there could be light to moderate showers, and sometimes heavy downpours in the State,” Dr Nagaratna said.

“Due to the winds from the west direction, some parts of the state will witness moderate rainfall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and the dry weather conditions will prevail in other areas,” the IMD said.

Apart from the lack of rains, Hyderabad will also see a rise in usual temperatures with a range of 31 to 33 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures will be recorded within 21 to 23 degrees Celsius.

While Monday did not bring rain to Hyderabad, it did drizzle in other districts. Nizamabad, Medak, Adilabad, and Sangareddy recorded under 10 mm rainfall yesterday while Bhadradri, Kothagudem, and Yellandu got showered with maximum rain density of 10.8 mm. Heavier rains did not stay far as parts of Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpeta, Jogulamba Gadwal and Vikarabad received it. 1.8 cm rainfall was recorded in Tandur and Yalal of Vikarabad district on Monday.

The light rainfalls are being seen in some places in the state with the capital having received a share of the heavy rains in June. Since the month’s first calendar date, Hyderabad has witnessed more rain than it usually receives. Opposed to the normal 2.8 rainfall, the city recorded 4.06 cm of rainfall this monsoon.
