While the world is grappling with the waves of Covid 19 and the increasing number of death, the Dutch government has announced the end of the pandemic.

Dutch Government Announces End of Lockdown

As per the latest reports, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the “actual end of the lockdown”. This would be effective from June 5, 2021. The Netherlands has been in a lockdown since December 15 last year. In the mid-April, the government announced their plans to relax the Covid 19 restrictions in near future. For the original plan, step 3 was to be launched on June 9. But the government decided to prepone the date and give the restaurants and museums “an extra weekend”.

What Will be the Changes In Covid 19 Relaxations?

Reports suggest that the new measures and the relaxation of the Covid 19 restrictions will include hosting a maximum of four people in their homes per day. Along with getting together with a maximum of four people from different households outdoors as well.

Museum, monuments, cinemas, music ventures and theatres are allowed to reopen. But they must follow Covid 19 safety guidelines i.e, wearing facemasks and maintaining social distance. Outdoor sports activities can now be practiced by a maximum of 50 people, and restaurants and bars can stay open again between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte called the easing of the rules as a “responsible but exciting step” and a “big moment”. He said that everyone must continue to adhere to the basic rules.

The Netherlands has so far recorded 1,637,466 coronavirus cases and 17,592 deaths.
