EC satisfied over poll arrangements in TS

Hyderabad: The Election Commission has expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made in Telangana for the elections and the State’s  preparedness for the democratic exercise in all respects.

The Commission’s positive impressions about the situation in the State were conveyed to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, Dr Rajat Kumar, by Mr O. P. Rawat, Chief Election Commissioner, at a video conference here on Wednesday on law and order situation. Mr Rawat asked the authorities not to be complacent and instead,”Be on your toes and take immediate action as and when required”.

He asked the law enforcement authorities of Telangana and its neighbouring states Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh to keep a vigil on transportation of men and material and drugs besides cash and liquor and take all steps necessary for a free and fair elections.

The conference was participated also by  Mr  Ashok Lavasa, Election Commissioner, and the Chief Secretaries, the DGPs and the nodal officers of law and order from the five States.
Dr Rajat Kumar informed the Commission that a continuous watch  was being maintained at the border points to check left wing extremist activities, transportation of liquor etc and said, this
would not have been possible but for the “good cooperation” extended from other States.

“The law enforcement authorities of all the neighbouring States are coordinating well with their counterparts in Telangana to ensure free and fair elections”.  Already, nuts and bolts were tightened at all the 39 check-posts lying at the border points with these States, the CEO said.

The Chief Secretary, Mr S. K. Joshi, said, the State was fully prepared for the elections and it faced no specific issue or problem thwarting the atmosphere. “The situation is well under control and comfortable. We are ready to conduct free and fair elections”.

The DGP, Mr M. Mahender Reddy, said, the joint police operations were going on against naxalite activity with the cooperation of the officials of the neighbouring States.  (NSS)
