Fasting State BJP chief Laxman held, shifted to NIMS

Hyderabad: Stating that the State government was ignoring bungling in Intermediate results and suicides of students, State BJP president K Laxman, along with others, were arrested hours after they started indefinite fast at the State BJP office at Nampally here.

Police personnel, under the supervision of Crime DCP Avinash Mahanti, entered the BJP office in Nampally and bodily removed Laxman from there and took him to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Some BJP workers were also arrested, leading to mild tension in the area. Laxman began the fast on Monday morning at the BJP office, not far from the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) headquarters, which witnessed a series of protests by Opposition parties and groups of students.

The BJP leader was demanding a judicial probe into the BIE bungling, resignation of the Education Minister and compensation to families of students who committed suicide. He said they won’t leave the matter until the government suspend Educational Minister G Jagadish Reddy.

Addressing from  hunger strike venue along with BJP senior leaders, Laxman exhorted the students not to commit suicides as life was precious. He also reminded that students got Telangana State with movements and finally ending their lives was very unfortunate. He also blamed the State government’s criminal negligence responsible for 26 students committing suicides.

BJP National General Secretary N. Muralidhar Rao condemned the arrest of Laxman  and other party workers. He said the party workers in the entire Telangana State would stage protests against the State Government. He also said they would lay a siege to Pragathi Bhavan on Tuesday.

BJP leader and former minister D K Aruna  held Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for the suicide deaths of 26 students. She expressed her solidarity to Laxman’s fight with the government.  (NSS)
