Hyderabad:A female panther named Deepa at the Nehru Zoological Park has died here due to senility.
22 years year old Deepa female panther suffering from bronchitis, was unable to walk as she had become very weak. A couple of days back, she had undergone lateral recumbancy, and was treated intensively with IV fluids and supportive therapy, but the animal died.
The post-mortem lesions indicated congestion of lungs with lesions of small nodules in the structure scattered throughout the surface of lobes. Liver was enlarged and congested with presence of multiple cyst, stomach and intestine congestion.
All the samples were collected and sent to VBRI, Shantinagar, in the city for detailed investigation. A panther in wild generally live upto 12 – 15 years and in captivity around 18 years
