Former Mayor Threatens to Leave Party Over Ticket Denial in Maheshwaram Constituency

Teegala Krishna Reddy, a former mayor of Greater Hyderabad and a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader, has threatened to leave the party if he is not handed a ticket from the Maheshwaram constituency in the next Assembly elections. He voiced his displeasure with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for inducting P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, a Congress candidate who ran against him in the 2018 elections, into the party and rewarding her with a Cabinet position.

Krishna Reddy ran for Maheshwaram on a TRS ticket in 2018, but was defeated by Sabitha Indra Reddy. He previously served as mayor of Greater Hyderabad from 2002 to 2007, and was elected in 2014 on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket from the Maheshwaram constituency. However, he and three other TDP MLAs later moved to the TRS.

Krishna Reddy expressed his displeasure with party members who believe that his family should not hold multiple positions, given that his daughter-in-law, Anitha Reddy, is the chairperson of the Rangareddy Zilla Parishad. He urged the party’s leadership to hold talks with leaders who were active during the Telangana struggle but are now leaving the party.

Krishna Reddy joined the BRS last year and accused Minister Sabitha Indira Reddy of encouraging encroachment in the Maheshwaram constituency. He chastised her for destroying the Meerpet Mantrala lake and vowed to take action, including an indefinite fast, if necessary, to solve the issue of encroachment and environmental degradation in the area.
