Former UP Governor Booked For Sedition; Comments Against Yogi Government

In the latest update from Uttar Pradesh, Former Governor Aziz Qureshi has been booked on charges of sedition by the UP police. He had allegedly made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

BJP Leader Files Complaint Against Former Governor 

As per the latest reports, the FIR was registered after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Akash Saxena informed the police at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur district on Sunday night.

Qureshi, 81, who was a senior Congress member also served as the Governor of Mizoram in 2014-2015. He was in Rampur to meet the Samajwadi Party leader Mohd Azam Khan’s wife Tanzeen Fatima at her residence on Saturday.

Later, while talking to the media, he allegedly compared the Yogi government with the “demons”.

Saxena in his complaint to the police said that the remarks made by Qureshi are gaining attention over the social media and this can create tension between the two communities. And this may further lead to “communal riots”.

Qureshi Booked Under Charges Of Promoting Enmity

With the reports received so far, Qureshi has been booked under Sections 153A on the charges of promoting enmity between two groups on ground of religion, race, etc., 153B (impulations, assertions prejudicial to national integration, Section 124A regarding (sedition)and 505 1B regarding intent to cause fear or alarm to the public.

Rampur’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sansaar Singh spoke to the media and informed that the complaint was lodged by Akash Saxena against former UP governor Aziz Qureshi. Singh revealed that so far with their initial investigation the FIR has been registered under relevant sections. And further actions will be taken as per the law.
