In the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, the destiny of the BRS and the Congress hinges on the outcome in four crucial districts. A pivotal 50 Assembly seats within these districts will determine whether the BRS can achieve a hat-trick victory. The contest is vital to ascertain if the BRS can sustain its previous winning trend, particularly in Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Rangareddy districts. However, indications suggest that the Congress has bolstered its position in these districts compared to the previous Assembly elections.
During the last elections, the BRS secured 34 seats, while the Congress won 13 out of the total 50 seats in these four districts. The BRS’s potential hat-trick victory relies heavily on maintaining dominance in Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Rangareddy, while the Congress must sustain its stronghold in Khammam and enhance its standing in the other three districts to thwart the BRS’s return to power.
In Khammam district, comprising ten Assembly seats, the BRS previously won one seat, the Congress secured six, and the remaining three seats were divided between the TDP and an independent candidate. However, recent developments, including the inclusion of former minister Tummala Nageswar Rao and former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, have strengthened the Congress’s position in Khammam, making it challenging for the BRS to retain even a single seat.

In Nalgonda district, with 12 Assembly seats, the BRS claimed nine, and the Congress secured three seats. Similarly, in Mahabubnagar district, out of 14 Assembly seats, the BRS won 13, while the Congress secured one. Rangareddy district, with 14 seats, witnessed the BRS winning 11 and the Congress three in the previous Assembly elections. Notably, BRS leaders, including former ministers and MLAs, have shifted allegiance to the Congress in these districts.
Adding complexity to the electoral landscape, former Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy in Nalgonda, who joined the BJP, is speculated to return to his former party. Additionally, in Mahabubnagar, former minister and BRS senior leader Jupally Krishna Rao has switched to the Congress. The political dynamics in these districts set the stage for a closely contested electoral battle in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.
